When you think of Gary Sinise, you probably think of the great Lt. Dan from the instant-classic movie Forrest Gump. What you may not know is that in 2011 he founded The Gary Sinise Foundation, which honors our nation’s Veterans by holding unique events and fundraisers throughout the country. One such fundraising campaign, #ForTheRealLtDans, encourages groups across the country to host their own events to raise money and give back to Veterans and their families.
Through #ForTheRealLtDans, one college campus has gone above and beyond to support those who have given all for our freedom. For the past 3 years, students at the University of Notre Dame have hosted the Run Forrest Run 5/10K, an event sponsored by the college’s ROTC Service Groups. Notre Dame’s Run Forrest Run 5/10K raises funds for The Gary Sinise Foundation by encouraging people across the country to take part in the race. New this year, the organizers of the Run Forrest Run 5/10K have set up a Virtual Run & Walk, where participants across the country can sign up and complete the race at a location of their own, and can post their race photos under #ForTheRealLtDans.
This year’s Run Forrest Run 5/10K will take place on April 22nd, at 9:30 AM. To learn more about this event, and to register, go to http://www.runforrestnd.com/
