From June 23rd to June 27th, one of the Shootout for Soldiers’ beneficiaries, the Semper Fi Fund, had an adrenaline-filled three days with veterans on the water as a part of the Wake for Warriors program. Veterans learned how to wakeboard and wakesurf, and they were taught by the best. The program was held on Lake Renier in Georgia.
There were athletes from the Semper Fi Fund and the Team America fund, all taking part in great event for veterans from all over. This is the Wake for Warriors program’s first year, and it has been a rousing success. Wake boarding is a sport that combines skill and adrenaline in a way that helps heal the veterans not only physically, but also emotionally.
“Wakesurfing and wakeboarding are very social sports that allow service members to be active and learn some new skills in a leisurely atmosphere,” said Sam Tickle, Associate director of Team Semper Fi.
At the Shootout for Soldiers, we love to see Veterans playing lacrosse who may have thought they would never get to see the field again. It is great to see the Wake for Warriors program doing the same thing with water sports.
