“Operation Baggataway was a great way to pay forward, and give back,” said Emma Thomas. “It was a great experience for me, not only gathering the equipment for the troops, but getting the message out there and seeing everyone come together to help me succeed in collecting as much lacrosse gear as possible.”
Emma Thomas, a student-athlete at Drew University in Madison, NJ, used her contacts in her hometown of Wading River, New York to run a donation drive for Operation Baggataway, collecting lacrosse gear with the help of the Wading River Fire Department.
A collective effort from the entire Wading River community, Emma utilized social media and emailing strategies to spread the news of the collection drive. By use of email, Emma contacted athletic departments and lacrosse coaches in the community to get word out of the ongoing collection drive.
After college, Emma hopes to work with rehabilitating veterans, and possibly helping with the development of prosthetic technology. Emma hopes to “devote [her] life to helping people who have protected our country every day.”
