Angry Bear Lacrosse Founder Mikey Anger is participating in his first Shootout for Soldiers event this summer in Boston.
When Mikey Anger began playing lacrosse two years ago for Keene Crush Lacrosse, he dove all in, learning everything he could about the sport. Inspired by Paul Rabil’s “Do One More” video campaign and the East Coast Dyes stringing and head dying videos, Mikey wanted to create a video on his own of him dying a head. With the approval of his parents, Mikey made his first “Angry Bear” video and from there it took off. The Angry Bear Lacrosse YouTube channel now has over 22 videos produced in the last 9 months.
Mikey then moved on to other social media platforms. He created an Instagram account @angrybearlacrosse to view heads, shafts, mesh, and anything related to lacrosse. Through Instagram, Mikey has become a brand ambassador for both Redline Lacrosse and Arc Lacrosse, as well as connected with many great people and companies in the lacrosse community such as True Lacrosse, East Coast Dyes, and Mogul Mesh just to name a few.
Mikey first heard of Shootout for Soldiers soon after he began playing lacrosse and knew he wanted to play in the event. Mikey is super patriotic – he has American Flag bedding, wall stickers, and even a poster of the Declaration of Independence in his bedroom. His father, Mike, is a graduate of Norwich University, a private military university in Vermont and served in the Army National Guard. He is also a 19-year veteran of the New Hampshire State Police. Both of his grandfathers served in the United States Navy during. His father says “[Mikey] has always fostered great pride in our country and those who serve to protect our freedom.”
With Mikey embarking on his first Shootout for Soldiers event, he began contacting people in the lacrosse community to secure fundraising prizes and player prizes for Mikey to donate to the SFS raffle and give each player a prize bag following the game. Mikey has drawn donations from family and friends to help generate the money to sponsor his first team for SFS Boston this summer. So far, Angry Bear Lacrosse has raised over $1500 for SFS Boston including $600 from Mikey alone.
“I hope that Mikey and his teammates gain a very distinct appreciation for those that sacrifice their own personal safety and well-being for the benefit of them, so that they may live freely and safely,” said his dad Mike.
