After stepping on a 40 lb. IED while in Afghanistan four years ago, life changed quite a bit for U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Nick Kimmel. But with the help of 12 donors, The Gary Sinise Foundation provided Kimmel with a “Smart Home” that will accommodate all of the veteran’s needs, even giving him a garage to restore old vehicles with his father.
“Having hard floors and wide-open spaces, I’m not worried about banging my hand and smashing it on a door jam,” Kimmel said. “It’a going to help a lot. It’s going to be a really nice thing.”
