Shootout for Soldiers Canandaigua 2019 brought in an impressive $57,755 in it’s third year. To kick off the event, the opening ceremonies featured a motorcycle patriot ride, the playing of Taps, and the always highly anticipated veterans game.

Local charity partners Veterans Outreach Center Inc. and Blue Star Mothers of America will receive a portion of the fundraising. Veterans Outreach Center Inc. offers “free programs and support for veterans in Rochester and the surrounding counties.” Blue Star Mothers of America boasts a mission statement “of serving our deployed troops, our veterans and the families on the home front,” and a goal “to take care of our deployed soldiers with boxes full of a touch of home, cards and letters.”
Contributing to the fundraising total of $57,755, was an impressive 19 teams that surpassed their fundraising totals, including the SFS Canandaigua Veterans Game team. In what only seems appropriate, the Veterans Game team raised $3,013 earning them the title of SFS Canandaigua’s Top Fundraising Team.
The Top Fundraiser, and winner of the Cascade Maverik x SFS helmet, was Veterans Game player Senior Chief Richard Crowley who raised $2,604.
ROC Warriors Hockey/RWB, a team comprised of hockey players from Rochester American Warrior Hockey and members of Team RWB, were the lucky winners of the “Keep Your Jerseys” contest.

This year the fan favorite Costume Game returned with a 2 a.m. time slot and we saw the addition of the first ever SFS Box Lacrosse game. Other game highlights include the box lacrosse team Rochester Bats making their SFS debut and a game between the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

“Our 2019 event was a perfect example of the military/veteran community, the civilian community, and the lacrosse community all coming together in the extremely hot weather to support a great cause,” said SFS Canandaigua organizer John Isaac. “To me this is what Shootout for Soldiers is all about. Communities uniting to show our love for those who have served. This is why people will be back next year and for years to come.”
